About

The idea of NORIA was originally formed in 2015 by two young musicians who wanted to bring traditional music for the youth by putting it through their own mold. After a year of talk they decided to make it real. By forming a group of 6 talented players, eager to make music for their own joy, began the journey of NORIA - the fusion-etno band from Vantaa, Finland.

NORIAs’ music has been described as mood music, feelings captured within notes. In order to express the existence of a small human in the suburbs of Helsinki NORIA combines influences from jazz, rock and pop into Finnish folk music. Sometimes the music tells stories about societal issues and in the next moment you feel like you are enjoying life by a lake after sauna. The original, distinctive and natural sound of the band brings a breeze of fresh air to the Finnish music scene.

Though the band and its players are new to the Finnish music scene they’ve gained quite a bit of recognition by performing on big festivals like Kaustinen folk music festival (2017), Haapavesi folk (2018) and Elofolk (2017).

Their debut album Lauloa Minä Lupasin was released in May 2017. It was composed and arranged with a strong liaison - just as well as their latest music. The individual ideas, personalities and interpretations intertwine into a harmonious arrangement creating an unique sound rich with variation. For a while NORIA refused to define a genre for themselves because of their diverse musical landscape. Always changing, like a wheel moving forward, they are not going to let the boundaries of fusion-etno restrict their music.

NORIAs’ new music is composed in this same fashioned way with more focus on production than before. Despite being viewed as down-to-earth hippies NORIA is also bringing out their modern, suburban side.

More music is coming out between November 2018 and April 2019. Stay tuned!
